We have been working for the last two practices on building drive trains for our programming bots! They are now in motion! Today we had our first practice where we disassembled last year's world championship robot and began the design process again to create our next robot! Today, Defenders Robotics participated in their first ever Robotics Competition. The event was held at the Baltimore City Robotics Center on West Pratt Street. The robotics team was only one of two middle school teams to enter the competition and we held our own! At the end of qualifying matches, the 8th Grade team was in 9th place and the 7th Grade team was in 18th. Both were selected to playoff alliances where they competed against some fierce competition. The 8th graders were knocked out in the semi-finals and the 7th graders' alliance made it to the quarter finals. At the end of the competition, the 7th Grade Team with Robot "Susan" were awarded the "Energy Award" for adding to the fun and positive atmosphere of the robotics competition. The 8th Graders were awarded the "Build Award" for their robot design and group knowledge of their design strategy. Great job to both teams! Our next competition will be on February 1, at Highlandtown #237. Come out and support robotics! The first practice for Robotics will be on October 24, 2013 in Mr. Glotfelty's Room. All interested students should plan on attending this meeting. Look for more updates soon!
